Hearty Lives helps friends and neighbours in Neath Port Talbot to live healthier lives

People living in Neath Port Talbot are more likely to have cardiovascular disease (CVD) than people in most other counties in Wales. Preventing it has become a priority for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

"When I was asked to become the player Ambassador for the project i didn't hesitate," said Swansea City FC player, Leon Britton, " I have a particular interest in health and am already the ambassador for a health improvement project in Swansea called Healthy Together." Leon added, "Hearty Lives Neath Port Talbot is about giving people training and resources so they can help their friends and neighbours to live healthier lives - and that has to be good. I really hope that the project will have lasting effects and help people improve their health."

Our Aims

  • We want to recruit and train community members to deliver positive and accurate health messages in their communities. All volunteers will receive full training before starting their volunteering. It will include the British Heart Foundation's 'Pass It On' Training plus other courses covering Smoking, Safe Alcohol Consumption, Healthy Eating and Physical Activity.
  • We want to use these valuable Community Health Volunteers as a way to support their friends and neighbours to make long lasting lifestyle changes.
